TRAINED IN SELF-CONTROL

Daily Reading: Genesis 4:1-16.

Key Verse: 1 Corinthians 9:25: and everyone who competes for the prize is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a perishable crown, but we for an imperishable crown.

Cain became jealous and angry because Abel’s offering was accepted by the Lord. At the peak of Cain’s anger, the devil entered into his life and caused him to kill his own brother, Abel. The consequence of this was the Lord punished Cain, which can be found in Genesis 4:11-12. From this story, we can learn that if we do not control our emotion, it can lead us to committing a sin and we need to swallow the bitter consequence of it. The Word of God stated that the devil is always roaming and is always ready to devour its prey. The devil will use many ways to make us emotional. The purpose is to get us to commit a sin. That is why we need to always be aware and ask the Holy Spirit to correct/remind us whenever we fail to control our emotion and anger. We need to learn to be someone who is patient and slow to speak. It is better for us to be quiet when things are not good because we can avoid committing a sin.

A life that is filled with the fruits of Spirit will have a good self-control.
