Daily Verses: 1 Samuel 13:1-14.
Key Verse: 2 Samuel 22:28: ”You save the humble, but your eyes are on the haughty to bring them low”.
Saul’s loss of position as king of Israel was caused by what he did when he became proud as a king. Saul felt that because he was a king, he had the right to do the duty of a priest/prophet – giving a burnt offering before the Lord. Saul’s action was seen as evil by the Lord and He rejected him as a king. We often hear and see how the Lord humbles the proud. Pride makes someone feel: they do not need the Lord, they do not want to obey the Lord, and that they can do whatever they want without caring for others’ interests. We can test ourselves if we have pride through some ways: do we always want to be praised for what we do? are we easily offended when we are corrected? do we look down on specific people? are we always proud of ourselves for what we do? or do we dislike it when someone else is better than us? Remember that Lucifer was driven out by the Lord because of his pride. Therefore, resist pride with humility. Remember that everything we have and where we are now, they are there only because of God’s grace and goodness; and there is nothing to be proud of.
Pride produces loss, but humility results in God’s blessings.
