LOVE DOES NOT ENVY

Daily Verses: Genesis 4:1-16.

Key Verse: Proverbs 14:30: ”A sound heart is life to the body, but envy is rottenness to the bones.”

Genesis 4 tells us how Cain killed Abel due to his envy as the Lord respected Abel’s offering and not Cain’s. His action resulted in a punishment over his life and Cain went out from the presence of the Lord (verse 16). From this story, we can learn that when jealousy or envy controls one’s heart, it will produce a negative impact. Someone who is easily envious will not have a peaceful life because they will often dislike others who have more than them. Other than that, various illnesses can result from envy (Proverbs 14:30). Therefore, it is important for us as God’s children to always examine ourselves, whether or not our hearts are clean from any envy toward others. The best way to avoid having envy is to believe that God’s blessing and grace for each person has its own “measure,” according to what is best for that person. Also, being diligent in giving thanks daily will keep us from having envy. Let us practice the Word of God that says “Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep” (Romans 12:15).

If we have a loving heart, we will rejoice for the good things that happen to others.
