“But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you” John 14:26
These days, the world offers a lot of entertainment/leisure; almost everything has all sorts of entertainment. For example, an office location will attract many when there is easy access to the gym, restaurants, or massage places. Majority of apartments have swimming pools. But, do all of these things give people true comfort?
Often times, we are willing to spend a lot to enjoy all kinds of media and leisure activities but our hearts still feel empty and meaningless. That is why we need the comfort that is deeper than what the world offers us. We need something that does not create external happiness but something that makes our spirit grow to be stronger and unshakable so that we can find a deeper meaning in life.
When Christ ascended to heaven, He sent the Holy Spirit, His Spirit, to dwell in the hearts of His people. Jesus said the Holy Spirit will come as the Helper or Comforter. The role of the Holy Spirit as comforter is revealed in His work that is able to convict people of sin, truth, and judgment so that our hearts may experience a new paradigm. We are enabled by God to see reality with a new paradigm, a wider paradigm because our hearts are filled with His joy and peace.
The Holy Spirit is able to give us joy and because of that our spirit will still glorify God although we may be facing all kinds of problems and difficulties. The work of the Holy Spirit also enables us to always rejoice although we may not have the access to the worldly entertainment/leisure.
The work of the Holy Spirit as comforter also has the role to accompany, advise, guide and strengthen the believers so that they can be Christ’s witnesses.
Then, how are our lives these days? Do we depend on worldly leisure? Or are our lives enriched with the Holy Spirit and are we able to rejoice in the midst of problems or difficulties?
Rejoice, if we have comfort from the Holy Spirit. We can then continue to experience life that is full of meaning and joy. Ask the Holy Spirit to always fill our hearts. God bless
