Psalm 46:10: “Be still and know that I am God!”
The most difficult thing to do is not working, being active, commenting or speaking, but it is being still. People, in general, cannot truly stay still. Our mind is always active, and even when we are asleep, we often dream. This shows that our mind is not really sleeping. When we wake up, our mind starts to work and we continue to be active until we sleep again.
Because we are so active and it is difficult for us to be still, the Lord speaks to us in Psalm 46:10. We are asked to be still and know that He is God.
Being still can mean many things. First, being still gives us a special time to have a fellowship with the Lord. Only between us and the Lord, no one else. During that time, we pray and converse with the Lord about many things, praise and magnify His name, and also read His Word.
Many of God’s children are busy and they don’t have the time to have a fellowship with the Lord. Even if there is time, they often do it in a rush and intimacy with the Lord is not built. For the Lord, having a fellowship with Him is the main priority compared to other things. Daniel was someone who was pleasant before the Lord and he was loved because he gave a tremendous amount of time for the Lord. Daniel gave his time to meet with the Lord three times a day. This touched the Lord’s heart. He defended Daniel and showed him miracles. The Lord gave him promotion after promotion even though he was placed among nonbelievers.
Being still also means to have a trusting heart and not be troubled. Even though storm and problems may come, a still heart is a heart that can stand firm in faith upon the Lord’s promise and help. When we are still, we will see God’s power and way. We will understand why things happen and the Lord’s reason behind them.
The words “know that I am God” contain a meaning that God is ready to be our defender who is incomparable. Many of God’s children are enemies to each other and they do not live unity because they have the tendency to defend themselves and hold on to their rights. Surrender your defense to the Lord. We have a just God and He will do what is best for His children.
Let us be still before the Lord so that we can see God’s power in every situation. God bless.
