DO NOT BE DOUBLE HEARTED

I READ: 1 Kings 18: 20 – 40

Elijah experienced the miracle of God when the fire from heaven came down to the altar of offering and the Israelites witnessed it. This was possible because Elijah followed the Lord with all his heart and is not double hearted. Elijah wanted to show the people of Israel that they were following the Lord half-heartedly and their hearts were double hearted, and they were following and worshipping Baal, which is a statue of an idol. This statue was worshipped by many of the Israelites and the king and his family.

Elijah reminded the Israelites to acknowledge the Lord and say to the Lord that “You are Lord over my life. Be a king that reigns over my life and there’s nothing else that’s more important than You. Reign over my life.” The Word of God in James 4:8 reminded us to always be close to God and worship God as the only God. Sometimes there are things in our life that are more important than God and it might be your work, family, ministry, or our self-esteem, etc. James reminded us to repent if in our heart we are still double hearting/minding God.

I DECLARE: James 4: 8: Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.

I DO: Today I will pray and return to my first love for God. What does it mean to return to the first love? It means to realize that God is the only and the most important person in my life.

I PRAY: I will pray with my small group friends tonight and strengthen each other through it.
