DO NOT BE ARROGANT

Daily Verses: 1 Samuel 2:2-3.

Key Verse: 1 Samuel 2:3: “Talk no more so very proudly; Let no arrogance come from your mouth, For the LORD is the God of knowledge; and by Him actions are weighed.

Someone can be arrogant if they are rich, beautiful/handsome, smart or multi-talented. Why is this the case? Because this person forgets that everything comes from the Lord. Lucifer was casted away from heaven because of his arrogance. The story of Lucifer shows how much God hates those who are arrogant. As God’s children, we need to often check whether we have arrogance in our heart. Someone who is arrogant can have one or more of the following characteristics – 1) be proud of his/her own work 2) always seeking human praises 3) often thinks that he/she is smarter than others 4) only socialize with others of the same social status. We need to pay attention to spiritual arrogance as well. Spiritual arrogance means we have the feeling that we are more spiritual and knowledgeable than others. A person who is spiritually arrogant will be difficult to give advice to and will always view other’s spiritual level lower than his/hers. We also need to be careful with praises that are given to us because these praises can make us feel honored and great. We have to pray so that we have a humble heart. We need to remind ourselves that all successes and everything we have is only by His grace and they all belong to the Lord.

Arrogance can cause someone to forget about the Lord.
