COMPASSION

I READ:  Matthew 5:38-44

The law teaches us eye for an eye; tooth for a tooth.  In other words, do good to those who have done good to you, and be wicked to those who have done you wrong.  But in His Word, Jesus taught the opposite: whoever slaps you on your left cheek, give him the other cheek.  Whoever treats us like their enemy, we should love and pray for them.  Maybe we’re saying, “Lord it’s too difficult for me to do that because I’ve been hurt.”  Jesus had all the reasons not to do His work on the cross, but those reasons didn’t stop Him because he loves us.  His love for us is much greater than all the sins of this world.  Because of His compassion, we’ve been saved from our sins and we’ve been moved from death to life.  Those of us who are poor become rich because of His grace.  Have compassion for souls, pray and bless those who have hurt us.

I DECLARE: Matthew 5:10,12b – Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven…for great is your reward in heaven

I DO: What action will I take today after meditating on the Word of God?

I PRAY: Pray as guided by Holy Spirit.
