Fruit from The Goodness of The Heart

Ruth 1:18: When she saw that she was determined to go with her, she stopped speaking to her.

Ruth is a special daughter-in-law. Ruth loved Naomi, her mother-in-law, even though Ruth’s husband, Naomi’s child, had died.  After her husband and two children died, Naomi forced her two daughters-in-law (Ruth and Orpah) to leave her and return to their hometowns since there was no hope for Ruth and Orpah to follow her.  Only Orpah obeyed, while Ruth insisted on following Naomi back to Bethlehem, the homeland of Naomi.

From the story of Ruth, we must be wondering what kind of strength Ruth had, that gave her the ability, not only to remain faithful but also to follow and take care of her in-laws. Although realistically their future had no hope.  The story of Ruth’s life had a happy ending.  She married Boaz, a rich man who loved God.  She finally got happiness because she had a kind heart. During the harvest season, she would pick up the remains of the wheat barley, like a beggar, so she could take care of her Mother-in-law. She was not ashamed to do this because her actions were driven by her kindness.  The fruit of Ruth’s kindness was the happiness she received until the end of her life.

From the marriage of Ruth and Boaz, a son named Obed was born. Obed is the grandfather of King David. From the lineage of Obed was born King David and from the line of David was born our Lord Jesus Christ.

We learned from the Story of Ruth that she received the fruit because of her kindness, and we believe that God will reward those who have a kind heart. A kind person will produce good deeds. Ruth’s kindness can be seen through acts of kindness in the form of looking after and caring for her parents-in-law’s life. A kind person can also be seen from the good deeds he has done. A person cannot be considered kind without showing an act of kindness or doing good deeds.

Our situation may not be good, but we still need to have a good heart and perform good deeds. God will repay our good deeds with His blessings.

The church can only be salt and light to the world if the church does good deeds. The Word of God says, “Let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven” (Matthew 5:16). Amen Jesus bless you.
