THE PENTECOST INCIDENT

Daily Verses : Acts 1 : 4-9, Acts 2 : 1-4

Key Verse : Acts 1 : 4-5 : “On one occasion, while he was eating with them, he gave them this command: ‘Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. 5 For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.’”

After the resurrection of the Lord Jesus and before He ascended to heaven, for 40 days Jesus revealed Himself to His disciples. When Jesus revealed Himself, He gave a message to them to stay in Jerusalem while they wait for the Father’s promise, which was to be baptized with the Holy Spirit. At the time there were approximately 500 disciples who heard this message, 1 Cor. 15 : 6. After Jesus gave this message, He was taken up to heaven. The disciples returned to Jerusalem and began waiting upon the Lord’s promise. They prayed together diligently and with one heart, Acts 1 : 14. However after a while nothing happened while they waited upon the Lord’s promise. Many of the disciples started to stop meeting together and praying. In the end there were only 120 disciples left praying and waiting upon the Lord’s promise, Acts 1 : 15. On the tenth day the remainder were praying and suddenly the Holy Spirit was poured out in the midst of them and they were all baptized with the Holy Spirit and also filled with the power of the Holy Spirit. Through today’s Word the Lord is reminding us that if He has already given us His promise, wait on it diligently, praying together because the Lord’s visitation will come suddenly. If we are not in the right condition, then the visitation will pass us by, just like what happened to the 380 disciples that “missed the moment” when the Holy Spirit visited them that day.

Wait diligently and with one heart in prayer together for the Lord’s promise to be fulfilled. Don’t stop praying together for the Lord’s visitation to happen.
