I READ: Revelation 2: 12 – 17
The congregation in Pergamos was called The Compromising Church even though God praised them for their strong faith, but God found a few things that are not pleasing to Him. The congregation was shaken by the false teachings that are not according to God’s Word. The Bible said that these teachings were only pleasing to the ears of the audience (2 Timothy 4:3) and it caused the people to compromise against their faith. The people who were affected by these teachings didn’t have a strong faith to begin with and that’s why they were easily swayed/rocked by these teachings from the false prophets and teachers. In Matthew 7:24-27, Jesus equates these people to those who build their houses on the sand. The sand gives an illustration of a weak foundation so when the rain or wind comes, the house will collapse. 1 John 4:1 says that we must use the Word of God to test these false prophets and teachers. Are they teaching according to the Word of God or are they just taking parts from the Word of God and twisting it around? What is their motivation in teaching the Word of God? Is it because they want money, fame, or bring honor to themselves? God will give us the wisdom to separate the true and false prophets/teachers.
I DECLARE: Psalm 119: 105: Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.
I DO: I will restore my prayer life and read the Word of God by doing them faithfully.
I PRAY: I will pray for the people who are experiencing hardship in my life.
