THE CHURCH IN LAODICEA (THE LUKEWARM CHURCH)

I READ: Revelation 3: 14 – 22

The church in Laodicea was said to be the Lukewarm Church. They represented one of the churches that was not praised by the Head of the church, the Lord Jesus Himself, apart from the church in Sardis. This was because they were a church that was lukewarm – neither hot nor cold. They thought that they were rich – rich in the Gifts of the Spirit so that they could cast out demons and perform miracles – as well as rich in their knowledge of God’s word. However, the Lord says to them that they are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked (Rev. 3:17). Matthew 7:22-23 clarifies that simply being “rich” with the Gifts of the Spirit does not guarantee that they know the Lord. The key is knowing the Lord. The more we know our Lord and savior Jesus Christ, the more His grace will flow abundantly in our lives. We will become a church that is rich, blessed, and filled with His glory. The message of the Lord for the church in Laodicea was that they must know the Lord even more. Because of this, it is no surprise that Jesus says He stands at the door and knocks because this church did not have a desire to know Jesus in a deeper way nor to draw closer to Him, leaving Him standing outside. Jesus was not the center of their lives; rather, they chased after the gifts of the Spirit more.

I DECLARE: Ephesians 3: 18 – 19: …may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height — to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.

I DO: I will pray so that the Holy Spirit will open my eyes to know Jesus, the work of the cross, and His grace for my life. “I want to see your grace Lord Jesus”.

I PRAY: I will meditate on the Lord’s love and His goodness over my life. I will meditate on His sacrifice on the cross and will give thanks to Him.
