MERCY

I READ: Jonah 1, Jonah 3-4

Jonah, a prophet of God almost lost his opportunity to spread the Gospel to the people of Nineveh. Praise the Lord for He had given Jonah a second chance.  At that time God had commanded Jonah to go to Nineveh, but Jonah disobeyed and ran away to Tarshish.  In the middle of his journey, a great storm came that nearly sunk the ship Jonah was aboard.  During the great storm, Jonah realized it was caused by his disobedience (hard-hearted) towards God.  This caused Jonah to ask the seamen to throw him into the sea so that not everyone on board will perish.  Despite the consequence he faced, God was still with Jonah as He allowed the giant fish to swallow him whole where Jonah stayed in its belly for three days.  Jonah repented in the process and returned to Nineveh as God had commanded him. Why did Jonah almost lose this golden opportunity in life to evangelize? It was because he didn’t understand/have the mercy of God.  Jonah was not willing to show mercy for the people of Nineveh to repent and escape from their calamities.
